Tribenuron-methyl 75% DF

Trade name: Granstar
Group: Sulfonylurea
Antidote: Specific antidote available
Herbicide type: Selective, contact-acting herbicide

Mode of Action

Tribenuron-methyl inhibits biosynthesis of essential amino acids valine and isoleucine, preventing cell division in broadleaf weeds, effectively controlling them.

It is mainly absorbed through the leaves and rapidly translocated to roots and shoot tips, where it blocks cell division. As a result, the growth of susceptible weeds stops within hours after application.

Visible symptoms (chlorosis and bleaching) appear 5–10 days after spraying. Susceptible weeds die within 2–3 weeks, while moderately sensitive weeds become stunted and unable to compete with the crop.

The optimal application timing is when most weeds in the field have emerged and are in the 3–5 leaf stage. Late applications may suppress growth but result in lower mortality.

Crop & Application Recommendations

Compatibility, Mixing & Precautions

  • Avoid spray drift into adjacent broadleaf crop fields.
  • In adjacent wheat fields containing sensitive crops, spray only when there is no wind.
  • Tribenuron-methyl is not selective for any crop other than wheat and barley.
  • Compatible and mixable with grass-killer herbicides such as
Iloxan, Topic, Puma Super, and Avenge,
and with hormonal broadleaf herbicides such as 2,4-D,
and non-hormonal herbicides such as Bromoxynil.

Mixing order: First dissolve tribenuron-methyl in water, then add other herbicides.

  • Non-corrosive to metal equipment.
  • To be used only with prescription by plant protection specialists and strictly for the crops and weeds listed.
  • Not recommended for any crops or weed species other than those specified above.
